After all that food stories and so on; I want to come to the reason why I`m here: sailing!
Unfortunately there are only 11 boats at the start for the pre-race of the Worlds, but there are a few really good ones. Our rented boat looks quite similar to our own and some small things are easily fixed.
My crew is Federico, the middle man of Niels (the boat owner) and his brother Pedro, who is not experienced on a Soling but sailed some other classes like 420.
Yesterday, after some hours of waiting, we started in a light breeze with 2 bft. And around 38 degrees…oh man, I was never sweating so much.
We were leading right from the start, but at the second beat Daniel glomb broke from 5th to the left side and was never seen again. We held our second with ease, but (un)fortunately, Daniel had an OCS and so we won the race. Former world champion Georg Nehm finished 4th.
Today we sailed three races. The wind started quite early and so we were on the way with 2 bft., but got the wrong side, managed to go from 5th to second and were really happy. Georg won the race.
Now with 3 bft. we started at the pin and were never seen again. Georg finished second after a very hard fight.
The last race of day with same conditions. Daniel forced us in an OCS, which we realized quite early and went back. Very close racing and we rounded 5th, at the gate second and around 150 meters before the windward mark again first with a bit distance. Then we heard a bang and the outhaul of the mainsail broke, The sail went to the front and we tried to repair it; not good enough but to survive. The others were now very close: 5 boats in around 3 boat lengths.
At the gate second, then third and at the last downwind one escaped and so we finished 4th. Daniel won with Nelson second and Guili third.
Inspite of this pity we are really happy with this day…still leading and my boys are excited.
Tomorrow again two races and you will get the news first…stay tuned…
