Organizing Authority
The organizing authority is the International Soling Class (ISA) in conjunction with the Italian Sailing Federation and the Club Nautico Scarlino ( Organizing Committee ).
1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
1.2 The prescriptions of the Italian Sailing Federation will not apply.
1.3 The ISA Championship Rules will apply
1.4 The following racing rules will be changed: 28.1, 32, 35, 42.3(c), 60.1(a), 61.3, 62.2, 66, A11 and Race Signals AP and S. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.
1.5 Amendments to any of the rules applying to the regatta must be approved and signed by the ISA Liaison Officer appointed for the event.
2. Advertising category
The regatta is designated Category C under ISAF Regulation 20
3. Eligibility and entry
3.1 The Regatta is open to all yacht of the International Soling Class as prescribed in Championship Rule 4 – Eligibility
3.2 ISA Membership is obligatory for all crew members. Membership fees will be collected from any crew member failing to present proof of previously paid membership fee.
3.3 It is also required that all yachts entering display the ISA sticker for the current year. An additional amount will be collected from the helmsman or representative of any yacht not displaying the ISA sticker of the current year at the appropriate position.
3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry form on the event website (www.solingworlds.com) no later than 1 september 2008 and completing registration and payment of all fees
4. Fees
The entry fee will be 310€ plus 35UK pounds (the ISA Championship fee) and may be paid by credit transfer (IBAN: IT86 K061 6072 2500 0000 6310 C00 Codice BIC SWIFT: CRFIIT3FXXX ) or by cash in euro at registration. The entry fee includes craning on the Club’s hoists, mooring and two dinners
5. Registration
The Race Office at Club Nautico Scarlino will be open for registration on 11 September 2008 from 9.00 to 19.00; 12 September from 9.00 to 19.00; and 13 September from 9.00 to 17.00.
6. Schedule
6.1 Measurement and inspection will take place at “Marina Scarlino” on 12 September 2008 from 9.00 to 19.00; 13 September from 9.00 to 19.00 and 14 September from 8.00 to 10.00.
6.2 Racing is scheduled as follows :

6.3 The first Warning Signal each day will be at 12.00.
7. Measurement
Yachts will be measured in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 7.0 Measuring and Class Rules 16 and 17. For a yacht to be eligible to race, her valid (the original or copy of original) Measurement Form shall be presented at the Race office, and the helmsman must have satisfied all measurement and registration requirements as specified in the Notice of Race including the submission (at the completion of measurement) of properly completed measurement work sheets. If the Measurement Form cannot be produced before the first race, RRS 78.2 will be applied.
8. Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available at registration
9. The courses
Standard ISA Championship courses will be used
10. Penalty System
10.1 The two – turns penalty, rule 44.2 RRS, will apply
10.2 An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with Appendix N RRS. Their decision will be final and not subject to appeal in accordance with 70.4 RRS.
11. Scoring
11.1 The Low Point Scoring System of appendix A4 RRS will apply
11.2 9 Races are scheduled of which 5 must be completed to constitute a valid Championship
11.3 a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
11.4 b) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score
12. Prizes
The World Championship Trophy.
Paul Elvstrom Trophy – donated by the Cercle de Voile de Paris and awarded to the best –placed helmsman aged 28 or under on the first scheduled day of racing.
Tony Clare Trophy – donated by Tony Clare (ISA President from 1999-2002) and awarded to the highest placed boat with a woman on board.
Geert Bakker Trophy – donated by Geert Bakker (ISA President from 1976-1979) and awarded to a sailor from the host nation (nominated by the host nation-see the Championship Rules for terms of Reference).
KC1 Classic Trophy – donated by the Host Club and awarded to the highest placed boat built before January 1st of 1980.
Jose Lucio Giomb Trophy – donated by Jose Lucio Giomb (BRA) and awarded to the highest placed South American boat
Prizes will be given to the winners of each race and to the first ten overall.
13. Disclaimer of liability
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4 RRS “decision to race”. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
14. Insurance
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid and adequate third-party liability insurance cover while racing.
15. Media and Rights Waiver
By entering this regatta , the owner (or charterer) and crew members on competing yachts at the Soling Worlds 2008 grant at no cost the absolute right and permission to use their names, voices , images, likenesses and biographical material, as well as representations of their yacht: in any media (including television, photo, print and internet), to the Organizing Committee.
16. Advertising
Competing yachts may be required to display advertising material provided by the Organizing Committee.
